Dictum Health and eMD Collaborate to Launch Telestroke Platform in Rural America, Creating New Standard of Care

Tulane Health System and Rapides Regional Medical Center Support Stroke Patients at Allegiance Health Using Dictum Health's Stroke Platform

Dictum Health Inc., innovators in telehealth's Virtual Exam Room (VER) technology that brings the entire medical team to the point of care, and eMD Telehealth Solutions, a Louisiana-based telehealth company, announced today a collaborative launch of Dictum Health's Care Central Telestroke Module in several regional hospitals to support local healthcare providers and patients with 24-hour access to neurologists.

"The overall goal is to eliminate health disparities by forming partnerships, improving access to specialty care, and equipping providers in multiple health systems," said Joe Monsour Jr., Founder and CEO of eMD Telehealth Solutions. "Providing this telehealth service has the potential to create a larger community of healthcare base, keeping healthcare and patients local. As a result, rural healthcare can benefit through improving spending margins, supporting the fiscal health of facilities."

Telehealth lets us reach into a community, connect with providers there and put them in contact with a stroke expert immediately.

Dr. Justin Salerian, Neurologist and Director of Tulane Stroke Program

eMD Telehealth Solutions is collaborating with Tulane Health System and Rapides Regional Medical Center to connect patients at Allegiance Health with Vascular Neurologists to close the gap that currently exists in stroke care for rural Louisiana. In over half of Louisiana parishes, patients must drive at least 40 minutes to receive specialty care. This collaboration works to improve availability of stroke services in the state and across the nation.

"Telehealth lets us reach into a community, connect with providers there and put them in contact with a stroke expert immediately," said Dr. Justin Salerian, a neurologist and the director of the Tulane stroke program. "Of course, technology is just one part - people need to know stroke symptoms and get to a hospital as quickly as they can if a stroke is suspected."

Dictum Health's cost-effective and compact VER-CLINIC Telehealth Cart with Care Central cloud services, advanced stroke module, and PACS/DICOM viewer provide remote neurologists with complete stroke assessment capability that meet level three stroke center requirements including pediatric populations.

"Working closely with these neurology departments to provide rural hospitals with an advanced telestroke platform that improves 'door to needle time,' and ultimately patient outcomes, is truly transformative for healthcare," said Elizabeth Keate, Vice President of Product Management at Dictum Health. "Our telestroke solution is designed to improve and streamline the workflow from the arrival time of the patient, to engaging the remote neurology team for an immediate stroke encounter to administrating of tPA."

Patients and caregivers now have 24/7 access to leading stroke and neuroscience experts through Dictum Health's Virtual Exam Room (VER) that brings the entire medical team to the point of care and its Care Central Telestroke Module that reduces the time from emergency department arrival, evaluation, and treatment. Tulane Health System and Rapides Regional Medical Center have specialized resources including board-certified expert neurologists, neuroradiologists and surgeons dedicated to best practices that deliver the highest quality and timely stroke care treatment.

"Ultimately, we hope to improve patient outcomes, generate quality data to drive decisions and improve health not only in Louisiana, but across the nation, while also improving overall health of healthcare systems," said Dr. Melissa H. King, DNP, eMD Telehealth Solutions' Chief Clinical Officer. "This collaboration and implementation of telehealth is changing the modality of care, improving outcomes, and raising the standards."

According to the American Stroke Association, approximately 795,000 strokes occur in the United States each year. Stroke is the country's fifth-leading cause of death and its leading cause of adult disability. These numbers have decreased in recent years because of greater patient awareness of stroke symptoms and improved access to stroke care and experts through programs like telemedicine and expect continued improvement with Dictum Health's telestroke module and Virtual Exam Room.
